The nameRathjens is pronounced rot-yens in German but we Americans have modified it to wrath-jens. The meaning of the name is something like, "city councilman". Since "rath" stands for city/government (e.g. "rathaus" means "city hall") and "jens" is similar in meaning to councilman. So one of our ancestors was likely in politics. Is that surprising? 8^) |
